ACCIONA seals water management deal with Caceres City Council (Spain)

The end-to-end domestic drinking water supply, sewage and wastewater treatment services are worth nearly 300 million euros. ACCIONA Agua is to run the water services for the city of Caceres (Spain) for the next 24 years. Thanks to a City Council contract worth almost 300 million euros, the company will manage the municipal domestic water supply, sewage system and wastewater treatment.

ACCIONA Agua's project includes the advance payment of 37.7 million euros' worth of charges, a 4% variable annual charge and 27 million euros investments in infrastructure renovation, technological improvements and innovation which will be borne by the company.
 
With this new contract, ACCIONA Agua's main objective will be to provide excellent service for local residents. The company is committed to improving the environment by reducing water capture, optimizing the performance of water networks and applying active training and awareness policies among its customers to get them to always "use only the water they need". Under the terms of the contract, the city water services' existing one hundred employees will join ACCIONA Agua.
 
The company boasts a range of cutting-edge technological tools and solutions for Customer Management, plant and network operation, material resources and a range of special vehicles, all of which will be brought into service gradually in Caceres. ACCIONA Agua will take charge of the end-to-end management of water treatment services, covering each stage of the process: water capture, drinking water treatment through the O&M of a Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP), meter maintenance and reading, sewage and wastewater treatment through a number of Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) and commercial services for end-customers. The company will also be carry out continuous sampling in laboratories to keep a check on the state of water and ensure the highest quality for end-customers.
 
ACCIONA Agua will also use the latest technologies in remote control and management, Geographic Information Systems modeling, sectorizing of networks, remodeling of deposits, renovation of networks and overhauling facilities to improve infrastructures and make them more efficient, sustainable and environment-friendly.
 
Thanks to a number of similar contracts, ACCIONA Agua meets the water needs of over 70 cities and more than three million inhabitants and towns up and down Spain.
 
The company's major water services contracts in Spain include the following: the management of drinking water, sewage and drinking water treatment for Soria; integrated water cycle management services for the associated municipalities of Granada's Costa tropical; a mixed joint-venture with the Jaen provincial authorities for end-to-end services in more than 35 towns and for more than 250,000 inhabitants; end-to-end management of urban services in Molina de Segura (Murcia), and O&M services for Valencia's entire sewage network. In Madrid, ACCIONA Agua handles nearly 50% of the municipal sewage network. Since September 2010, ACCIONA Agua has been managing public municipal water services for drinking water supply, sewage and wastewater treatment services in the city of Ubeda.
