Insituform® iTAP™ process robotically reinstates service connections inside the main

Oct 11, 2006

Insituform Technologies®, Inc., a global provider of cost-effective trenchless technologies, recently introduced its iTAP™ process to the drinking water market.

iTAP, a robotic method of reinstating service connections from inside the main, allows users to save time while reducing the added expense and disruptions of digging. Conventional methods require holes to be excavated at each service connection when water distribution mainlines are restored. iTAP streamlines this process and provides a non-disruptive solution for pressure pipes when using the company’s Thermopipe, PolyFlex or PolyFold lining systems.

During the iTAP process, remote operators locate service connections in the lined main and robotically cut through the liner to reach them. After tapping each corporation valve, sealing nuts and gaskets are installed in each threaded corporation valve to construct a water-tight seal.

"iTAP will change the industry standard for drinking water pipe rehabilitation," said Alex Buehler, Vice President of Marketing and Technology. "Because the iTAP process reduces the economic and social costs of traditional digging methods, we believe it will speed the acceptance of trenchless technologies for the drinking water market."

The iTAP process is suitable for distribution pipe diameters ranging from six to 12 inches and has been seal tested to 300+ psi. All Insituform® drinking water lining products are certified by NSF to comply with the requirements of NSF/ANSI Standard 61.
