California American Water tunnels under Interstate 80 near Citrus Heights to install new water main

California American Water is completing the final stage of a $4.6 million dollar project to replace aging water mains in the Lincoln Oaks water system and improve the reliability of the water system. In this final stage, contractors for the company are excavating and tunneling down 19 feet under Interstate 80 near Antelope Road to install a 24-inch casing containing a 12-inch water main. The main will run for 520 feet under I-80 and tie into existing mains located in neighborhoods on each side of the highway.

Robbins Double Shield Completes First Sewer Tunnel in Melbourne

TBM Bores under Houses on Urban Wastewater Pipeline: Heavy seasonal rains in Melbourne, Australia can create the potential for hazardous wastewater overflows. Protecting the area’s valuable streams and rivers is the primary priority of the city’s five-year Northern Sewerage Project (NSP). Split into two stages, the NSP involves the construction of several new sewer tunnels, located deep beneath Melbourne’s densely populated northern suburbs. Each of the seven new tunnels is being constructed with TBMs. A 3.0 m (9.8 ft) diameter Robbins Double Shield TBM recently completed its first section of tunnel in July 2009. The machine was launched to bore sections of Stage 2 during the first quarter of this year.

Huge Reception For Tunnel Boring Machine Gabi 1. The Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine 'Gabi 1' reached its target destination of Amsteg in the middle of June 2009 – six months ahead of schedule. Politicians, tunnel workers and 650 guests cheered on the tunnel boring machines as it arrived. This final breakthrough by the first machine in the Erstfeld-Amsteg section constitutes the achievement of an important milestone at the Gotthard Base Tunnel. Moritz Leuenberger, member of the Swiss Federal Council, congratulated the tunnel constructors on their excellent performance at the last stage target.

The second of three 10.0 m (32.8 ft) High Performance (HP) Robbins Double Shields that will bore under the park was assembled in late May 2009. The machine is scheduled to be launched in June for a 19.2 km (11.9 mi) long tunnel in the arid state of Andhra Pradesh.

Agreement will create a competitive and innovative leader in epoxy-based solutions for the trenchless industry – Dow Systems, a global business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), and RS Technik Group (including RS Technik, RS Lining Systems and Maxliner) announced today that they will form a global commercial alliance focusing on the sewer pipeline rehabilitation market, specifically on the trenchless technology called cured-in-place pipe (CIPP). This alliance will combine Dow’s high-technology performance resin systems, characterized by high chemical resistance and mechanical properties, with the state-of-the-art CIPP technology developed and owned by RS Technik Group. It will further increase the partners’ competitive advantages and differentiate the many benefits they offer versus other CIPP providers. The announcement was made during the International Water Week held in Singapore.
